Guide

Your first cycle

One compound, a sensible dose, bloodwork, and a plan for the end. Nothing else.

Home / Blog / Your first cycle

Most first cycles go wrong for the same three reasons: too many compounds, no plan for afterwards, and no bloodwork. This guide avoids all three.

The principles

One compound. Your first cycle is not about maximising gains. It is about finding out how your body responds to testosterone when nothing else is muddying the picture.

Test as the base. Always. It is the hormone your body already makes, so you have a reference point.

Long ester, low frequency. Fewer pins means better adherence.

Plan the end before you start. PCT is not an afterthought, it is half the cycle.

The cycle

Start at 300-400mg if you are cautious. Higher is not automatically better and it makes sides harder to attribute.

Why not to stack on cycle one

If you run test plus an oral plus a second injectable and something goes wrong, you have no idea which compound did it. On cycle one you want clean attribution. On cycle two you can add.

Ancillaries

Have an aromatase inhibitor on hand. Arimidex. Testosterone converts to estrogen, and for some people that means sensitive nipples, water retention, or mood swings.

Dose it by feel and by bloodwork, not by habit. 0.25-0.5mg twice a week is a common starting point, adjusted from there. Crashing your estrogen is as unpleasant as letting it run.

Have a SERM ready. Nolvadex for PCT, and as a tool if gyno flares mid-cycle.

Bloodwork

Get it before you start and again around week six. You are looking at total and free testosterone, estradiol, hematocrit, and lipids. Without a baseline you cannot tell what changed.

This is the single biggest difference between people who run cycles well and people who guess.

Diet and training

Boring and true: you need enough protein and enough calories. Roughly 1.6-2.2g protein per kg of bodyweight. Train hard, progressive overload, sleep properly. Gear amplifies what you are already doing — it does not substitute for it.

PCT

Wait for the ester to clear. For enanthate or cypionate that is roughly two weeks after your last pin.

Then:

Clomid works but some people get moody on it. Nolvadex is the more common choice.

Get bloodwork again four to six weeks after PCT finishes to confirm you have recovered.

What success looks like

Not a number on the scale. Success is: you gained lean mass, you kept most of it, your bloodwork came back clean, and you know how your body responds to testosterone. That last one is the real asset.

The mistakes

  1. Running 750mg on cycle one "to make it count".
  2. Adding an oral in week two.
  3. No AI, then panicking at the first sign of sensitivity.
  4. Skipping bloodwork.
  5. No PCT, then wondering why everything disappeared.
  6. Changing dose every week instead of holding one.

FAQ

What should my first cycle be?

Test E or Test C, 300-500mg per week, split into two pins, for 10-12 weeks.

Should I stack on my first cycle?

No. Run one compound so you can tell what is doing what.

Do I need an AI?

Have one on hand and dose by feel and bloodwork, not by habit.

Do I need a PCT?

Yes. Nolvadex 40mg for two weeks then 20mg for two, starting about two weeks after your last pin.
